Social Development backs reopening of ECD centres
Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has asked parents and caregivers to familiarise themselves with the new health and safety guidelines for Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDC).
Zulu was speaking at the National Coronaviorus Command Council media briefing on Monday.
Some have been given the go-ahead to reopen.
She says her department isn't opposed to the reopening of these facilities.
"Those ECD centres must open. The steps we have taken to date are to ensure that when the sector reopens, parents/caregivers do not have to worry about the health and safety of their children.
For this reason, the directions include the health and safety guidelines, daily health screening, the use of personal protective equipment, physical distancing and more frequent and rigorous cleaning," says Zulu.
She says over 9 800 ECD centres completed online assessments. Just under 1 500 that met the department's compliance requirements were verified. Over 8 000 made their submissions manually.
