KZN police: Friends claim woman jumped off N3 bridge

KZN police say the friends of a 19-year-old woman who died after plunging off a bridge west of Durban claim she jumped.

The group had been walking on the N3 bridge near Shongweni on Friday night - when the incident happened.
There've been allegations the young woman was thrown off the bridge.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the group told investigators they have been drinking in Durban and were walking home at the time after getting off a taxi.

Mbele adds, "While they were walking the victim was behind them and they heard her saying she's killing herself and after that, they saw her jumping off the bridge.
According to ER24, the woman had fallen some 40 metres into a gorge. Rescuers abseiled to the bottom to reach her.
It took a massive two-hour rescue operation by numerous teams to bring her up.
She was rushed to hospital where she later died from her severe injuries.
An inquest docket has been opened.
