KZN official's wife in hot water over homophobic comments
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen
The Gay and Lesbian Network says it's considering taking the wife of KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC to the Equality Court over homophobic comments she made.

Speaking at an event at a Durban clinic recently, Nono Dhlomo, described homosexuality as evil and said government should bring back religious studies in schools.

Director of the Pietermaritzburg-based Gay and Lesbian Network, Anthony Waldhausen says the comments amount to hate speech.
"There is a possibility of taking her to the Equality Court or the Commissioner of Gender Equality because what she is saying is incorrect and derogatory towards LGBTI people and can also lead to having negative permutations towards gay and lesbian people. It can also initiate hate crime towards gay and lesbian people," he says.
Several other civil rights organisations have called Dhlomo's utterances irresponsible and shocking
