KZN cracks down on crime with new vehicle tracking tech

KZN Transport says its newly launched Automatic Number Recognition System will boost law enforcement intelligence.

Aimed at identifying stolen vehicles, the system was launched by MEC Siboniso Duma at the Mandeni Toll Plaza yesterday.
During the launch, one motorist was arrested for being in possession of a stolen car.
Duma says they'll will be stepping up intelligence-driven roadblocks ahead of the busy Easter weekend.

He says over 300 road traffic officers will be deployed to monitor the roads with a focus on public transport vehicles.
"In ensuring that there's awareness, there's visibility on the road. People agree that there is an adherence on our road in the province of KwaZuluNatal. Even when you enter from Van Reenan, you are able to be conscientious that this is the province that has that visibility and awareness.
