ANC, DA talks ‘constructive’ amid budget tensions

The parties met yesterday to discuss the future of their political relationship, following recent tensions over the national budget.

The DA had rejected the proposed VAT hike and voted against the ANC on the matter.

" The meeting reflected on what we articulated in our statement as the A NC reflected on all of those issues. We also spoke about the budget impasse and what it is that we might do to resolve the impasse in the interest of national unity and stability in our country.
This is not the only party that the ANC has been meeting with," he added.

DA federal council chairperson Helen Zille says they reiterated their opposition to the VAT increase.
Particularly in the absence of any meaningful reform plan that will lead to economic growth and many more jobs being created.
"We agreed that it was very important to have mechanisms whereby these issues can be resolved timelessly, and that the mechanisms of the foundational statement of intent need to be built upon in order to make the GNU work more functionally."
