Three killed in Msinga shootout

Three suspected criminals have been killed in a gun
battle with police in Umzinyathi.

Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana of the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS says the Pietermaritzburg Public Order and Policing Unit received information about unlicensed firearms.
Officers made their way to Msinga Friday morning.
" Upon arrival at the identified location, suspects opened fire [on] police. Police returned fire, fatally wounding three suspects.
"Two AK-47 rifles, one .38 Special revolver, and ammunition were recovered.

Nkwanyana says in a separate incident in the same district on Thursday, five suspects were arrested on the R33 after being found in possession of a rifle and ammunition.
One of them has been linked to a 2023 mass murder in Nquthu.
The suspects are due to appear in court in Msinga.
