Durban metro police warns of increase in weekend roadblocks

Durban's metro police have vowed to increase roadblocks across the city to clamp down on drunk driving.

Thirty-two people were nabbed over the weekend after they were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Officials say they were arrested in roadblocks conducted in Durban North and Umsunduzi areas.
Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu says the highest recorded blood alcohol level was a staggering 0.99.
"Metro police have increased the frequency of their roadblocks on weekends to reduce the number of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol.

"This campaign is in response to drunken driving cases being identified as the leading cause of road accidents in eThekwini. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and prioritise safety to reduce road incidents."
