Thabiso Ngcobo, who's in the construction and transport business, says he saw four cars fitted with blue lights following him last month.

He says they intercepted his vehicle and forced him to pull over.

Ngcobo says the heavily armed gang - he claims to have been police officers - was wearing balaclavas:

"At this point, one of these guys comes to my window and bangs my window with the back of the gun; he was holding a pistol at that point. He then tries to open the door, but it is not opening, so he moves back; he goes back to the Golf 8, where he pulls out a rifle. He took a few steps forward and started shooting.

"At that point, a commissioner answered a phone; I told him I had been shot at by people who looked like police; I gave him a quick brief of the car that I had seen."

Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.

While the motive for the attack isn't yet known, Ngcobo suspects it has something to do with a high-profile case linked to construction mafias.

He says a group of men - demanded control of his business - after invading the premises last year:

"They produce something saying that they are now directing the business and that they are running the business.

I tried my best, but they were not leaving the site until the police arrived and they were arrested."
